Black Lips videos

Since The Black Lips are playing twice today in Dallas, I decided to upload an old video of "Stone Cold", from a show of theirs I taped back in May of 2003 at Beerland in Austin.

Later this week, footage from today's performance at Good Records and tonight's set at The Loft will be uploaded.

EDIT: My girlfriend got sick during the show, so we had to bail before the Black Lips set. Upon my return from work, I will upload a song or two from the in-store.

Left of Ghosthustler

Congratulations to Alan! I had to call him immediately upon hearing one of his tracks on satellite radio. Funny since I was on my way to catch his set at Fallout Lounge.

Earlier this evening at 10:45PM Central, Liquid Todd played "Only Me to Trust" by GHOSTHUSTLER on his ZEROS + ONES show on Sirius' Left of Center channel. That's the same channel which hosts 'blog-radio' with Brooklyn Vegan, Gorilla vs. Bear and ProductshopNYC.

Ghosthustler's new 12" for Someone Else's Ride will be released during SXSW, with a party in Austin, then shows to follow with a full band in Dentron in April and Dallas in May. The 12" will be avail. through Turntable Lab and select indie record retailers.

Going International ?

Not really, but the only non-domestic band we brought to Dallas last year was Montreal's AIDS Wolf. In our upcoming string of SXSW Spillover shows, we bring these up and coming international acts to town:

LIPSTICK TERROR, from Mexicali, Mexico. opening for Foreign Islands at Sloppyworld on 3/10. This is a five piece no wave/hardcore band. Bilingual screaming vocals, synths, drums, guitar and bass. They have played/toured with a lot of the current Los Angeles and San Diego punk bands such as Cattle Decapitation, the Locust, Some Girls, and many others off the 31G and the now defunct GSL roster. ALBUM: La Introducción Al Terror EP (Sour Pop)

DIE! DIE! DIE! , from Dunedin, New Zealand. headlining at The Cavern on 3/17. I have been wanting to get them for over a year now. They are a punk rock trio with a little bit of noise and all of their songs are catchy. "Better live than on the album" band, although their first self-titled album was recorded by Steve Albini. ALBUM: Promises, Promises (S.A.F.)

SIAN ALICE GROUP, from London, UK. opening for Die! Die! Die! at The Cavern on 3/17 - A brand new band on a label that releases "quality, not quantity". Multi-instrumental, progressive rock led by female vocals. Touring/Recorded with members of Jesus & Mary Chain, Spiritualized, Spring Heel Jack and Gang Gang Dance. ALBUM: 59:59 (The Social Registry)

Edit: 5:24 PM
Edit on 3/3/08 - Lipstick had to cancel. Bummer.

AKKOLYTE Are Always Awesome

AKKOLYTE, composed of the Gonzalez brothers, are a grindcore/punk duo from Dallas, played at SLOPPYWORLD on Friday, along w. The Great Tyrant (who's set was way too long) and LOOP 12. I arrived late, so I was unable to catch LOOP 12; and I left early, so I am not sure how the after hours dance party went. I look forward to having two shows at SLOPPYWORLD next month. It was well run and the bathroom was working fine despite the rumors. And they really mean ONLY ONE PERSON AT A TIME! Speaking of siblings, a local brother and sister dj crew were forcibly removed for violating this rule. Hint: They are opening for Chinese Stars on March 9th.

400 BLOWS lyrics, video

400 BLOWS "The Secret Life"

I’m playing in your closet
I’m driving with your keys?
I’m under your bed and I’m on the shelf
You’re the book that I read when I’m by myself x 3

The secret life has begun
I’m caught in the web that you spun
Your secret life has begun
I didn’t know this could be so much fun

These walls are painted with love
These walls are painted with kindness
I will always be expected to know:
Do you think that I need to rewind this? x 3

The secret life has begun
I’m caught in the web that you spun
Your secret life has begun
I didn’t know this could be so much fun

I didn’t know

You know I need it
You know I needed that your ? secret life
You know I need it
You know I needed that your ? secret life
I need one more hit

Goddamn I can’t believe this keeps happening
What a beautiful this world could be
You let me inside your secret life
How the hell could this happen to me?

Your secret life has begun
Caught in the web that you spun
Your secret life has begun
I didn’t know this could be so much fun

NO LIARS HERE!!

In collaboration w. SPUNE PRODUCTIONS:
FEB. 17th, 2008
LIARS (Los Angeles/Berlin) & NO AGE (Los Angeles)
w. $ELECT of the PARTY/Central Booking to DJ in-between and afterwards.

The LIARS are out supporting 2007's phenomenal LIARS (Mute). I am not sure how many times I have listened to this album, but it never grows old. Last time they came through town, was in Dallas as support for INTERPOL.

I wrote a blurb on NO AGE a while ago. NO AGE used to be in the short-lived punk band WIVES. They have a nice 12" split w. Moving Units released years ago on PPMand an amazing full length Erect the Youth Problem on Cold Sweat. Also, one of the guys in NO AGE is (or was) a high school teacher. They are out hustling WEIRDO RIPPERS which complies most of the tracks from the series of vinyl they released in 2007 and features their Los Angeles hang-out "The Smell" on the album cover. They are scheduled to play an instore at Good Records at 4PM the same day. Catch them twice it will be worth it.

yeah and i didn't post the flyer for the show b/c it's bullshit that SPUNE and Parade of Flesh are illegible.

Here is video Gitty shot of Liars at the Gypsy Tea Room (this was the last time i caught them live):

Color Blind?

My friend is the current guitar tech for THE COLOR FRED, which features Fred Mascherino, formerly of Taking Back Sunday. His new album is Bend To Break, on Equal Vision Records. Honestly, I don't listen to this genre, but I had a really good time filming them at the Palladium and I understand why the masses adore it. It's completely positive and catchy with no gimmicks. Here is the set-list:

1. Complaintor
2. I Didn't See
3. Get Out
4. Hate To See You Go
5. Minnesota
6. If I Surrender
